외계인 습격·광란의 카체이싱… 나홍진 ‘호프’ 예고편 공개

The long-awaited return of director Na Hong-jin brings audiences his latest work Hope, which has earned a coveted spot in the competition lineup at the Cannes Film Festival’s 79th edition. The international preview has now dropped, gradually lifting the curtain on this highly anticipated project.

What’s the story about?
The narrative centers on Beom-seok, a police station chief working near the demilitarized zone in a coastal town called Hopo Port. When local young residents report tiger sightings in the area, he finds himself confronting something far beyond ordinary belief.

The trailer’s visceral impact
Tension builds gradually before exploding into unpredictable chaos. The footage showcases the town thrown into disorder after mysterious beings launch an assault. Officer Seong-ae (portrayed by Jung Ho-yeon) emerges from a patrol vehicle stopped in the street, while station chief Beom-seok (Hwang Jung-min) arrives at a severely damaged shop to witness a horrifying scene.

Village resident Seong-gi (Jo In-sung) and other townspeople soon come face-to-face with the attacking force, triggering desperate combat sequences. The preview delivers overwhelming immersion through its breakneck pacing and innovative camera work during vehicle pursuits, brutal firefight exchanges, woodland chase scenes, and even horseback escape sequences fleeing alien attackers.

First look at the extraterrestrials
Perhaps most striking is the debut reveal of the alien creatures themselves. International stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton brought these characters to life through advanced motion and facial capture technology, translating their subtle expressions and physical movements into the final creatures with remarkable detail.

Early buzz and reactions
This same footage premiered at CinemaCon earlier this year, where industry insiders responded with enthusiasm. International critics and media outlets praised it as “unbelievably tense and powerful,” “the shock we’ve been waiting for,” and “an impressive piece that instantly transformed the room’s energy.”

Na Hong-jin’s distinctive raw and visceral directing style shines through, complemented by the cast’s fearless physical performances. Following his acclaimed work on The Wailing, this summer release promises sophisticated visual storytelling and an overwhelming genre experience.
