‘보플2’ 10위·16위 뭉쳤다…플레어 유 “악뮤 같은 듀오 될래요”

Fresh Duo Ready to Shine: Debut Showcase Highlights

Choi Lip-woo shared his excitement: “We’re thrilled to present a fresh side of ourselves. Expect to see both our youthful charm and polished performances.”

Kang Woo-jin added: “It’s a dream come true to finally debut. We’re grateful and ready to give it our all.”

The Birth of FLARE U

The pair held their debut media showcase in Seoul’s Hannam-dong district, introducing their first mini-album titled “YOUTH ERROR”. Both artists gained recognition through last year’s Mnet survival show, where they finished in 10th and 16th place respectively—just missing the final debut lineup for the eight-member group.

Now signed under FNC Entertainment (home to FT Island, CNBLUE, SF9, and N.Flying), the duo brings together Choi Lip-woo from Taiwan and Kang Woo-jin. Their team name symbolizes “two sparks meeting to create a single radiant light”—a brightness that becomes complete when shared with fans.

Reflecting on the Journey

Kang Woo-jin reflected on the survival program: “It was physically and mentally demanding, but it helped us grow tremendously as performers. That experience brought us to where we are today.”

Choi Lip-woo expressed gratitude: “We learned how to captivate audiences on stage. Those are beautiful memories we treasure.”

Duo Dynamics & Strengths

Kang Woo-jin highlighted the benefits of working as a duo: “Communication flows smoothly and decisions happen quickly. Initially, we felt some pressure about debuting as a pair, but once we started, it turned out to be incredibly fun.”

Choi Lip-woo noted: “Having more lines allows each of us to showcase our individual colors more effectively.”

The chemistry is evident—Choi Lip-woo praised his partner as “a reliable younger brother,” while Kang Woo-jin credited his teammate: “Living and training together, I’ve learned so much from his professional and mature approach.”

Album Concept & Musical Direction

“YOUTH ERROR” explores the theme of “youth navigating countless trials and errors.” The six-track album features diverse genres including drum & bass, pop house, and funk.

Track listing: title song “WAY 2 U,” plus “Hyper,” “Don’t Cry,” “MIRACLE,” “WOO-HOO,” and “Playground.” FNC Entertainment’s CEO Han Seong-ho personally contributed to writing and composing all tracks, providing robust support for their debut.

Title Track Details

“WAY 2 U” is a refreshing hybrid pop track combining bouncy pluck riffs with diverse soundscapes. The lyrics capture the moment someone realizes their feelings have evolved from friendship into something deeper.

Choi Lip-woo expressed confidence: “The instant I heard it, I knew fans would love this song.”

Kang Woo-jin teased: “The choreography is absolutely adorable, and there’s a storyline that makes it entertaining to watch.” He playfully added they hope to film dance challenges with company staff members.

Goals & Role Models

When asked about their aspirations, FLARE U expressed hopes of winning a Rookie Award. They named sibling duo AKMU as their role model, explaining: “We share similar artistic sensibilities with them. Like AKMU, we want to become a team that comforts people through music.”

The duo also hopes to earn the nickname “Vitamin Vending Machine”: “Just like vitamins are daily essentials, we want to become an essential source of energy in people’s lives.”

The album was released across digital platforms, with a special fan showcase following the media event.
