EVNNE Transforms into Five-Member Group, Returns with Hip-Hop Single ‘Backtalk’ and Self-Written Identity

From Seven to Five Members – A Bold New Chapter

The K-pop group EVNNE has returned with a streamlined five-member lineup, showcasing stronger unity and determination. “We’re aiming to become a self-complete group,” they declared. “This is our moment to showcase what we’re truly capable of.”

On April 20th, the group held a showcase event in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo district to celebrate their debut single album “Backtalk.” The team has transformed significantly since their origins on Mnet’s survival program “Boys Planet” in 2023, where they initially launched as a project group.

Two Visual Concepts, Double the Impact

The restructured lineup now features Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Junghyeon, Moon Junghyeon, and Park Jihoo. Following a fan meeting in early January, the group officially transitioned to this five-person formation. Moon Junghyeon shared their mindset: “With these changes came serious preparation and firm resolve. We encouraged each other to stay calm and give our best, just like we always have.”

Their first single presents dual concept versions: a raw “DRILL” aesthetic and a softer “PATINA” look, highlighting the group’s versatility and visual range.

Powerful Performance and Hip-Hop Edge

During the live showcase, the group delivered razor-sharp choreography that demonstrated remarkable growth. Their synchronized movements and individual charisma filled the venue with electric energy. The title track “Backtalk” marks a departure from their previous style, embracing a tougher hip-hop vibe with digicore foundations, distorted 808 bass, and trap rhythms that feel both modern and nostalgic.

The song’s message centers on expressing feelings that are difficult to voice—a bold declaration about forging your own path despite criticism and judgment from others.

Personal Investment Through Self-Written Lyrics

This comeback holds special significance as the group’s first official release beyond their project status. Moon Jihoo emphasized: “This album will define our future direction and image. Every lyric came from us, so we hope listeners pay close attention to the words.” Park Jihoo added that writing their own lyrics created deeper emotional connection and attachment to the music.

Rather than feeling shaken by roster changes, the team has strengthened their bond. Lee Junghyeon explained: “As a five-member group, each person’s role has become more critical. Instead of thinking ‘someone else will handle it,’ we’re each stepping up with personal responsibility. We’re pursuing a ‘self-complete’ group identity.”

Supporting Former Members, Looking Forward

When asked about former member Yoo Seungeon, who is pursuing a new debut with ANDTEAM, the group expressed warm support: “We stay in regular contact and exchange encouraging messages. We’re celebrating his new activities wholeheartedly.”

EVNNE concluded by sharing their vision: “We’re constantly asking ourselves what we can do and working to create authentic music that reflects our true identity. Our dream is to become a group with stage presence so powerful it commands complete attention. We’re motivating each other and continuously developing our skills together.”

The single “Backtalk” was released on various music streaming platforms at 6 PM on the same day.
