DB Group Launches New Women’s Golf Championship
DB Group is strengthening its commitment to Korean golf by establishing a brand-new tournament on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.
The DB Women’s Championship will take place over four days starting on the 30th at Rainbow Hills Country Club in Eumseong, with a total prize purse of 1.2 billion won.
For five consecutive years until last year, DB Group served as the title sponsor for the Korea Women’s Open, one of the national championship events. Now, the company is transitioning to partner with KLPGA Tour on this newly created championship, continuing its dedication to women’s professional golf.
The group’s support isn’t limited to women’s golf alone. DB Insurance also backs the men’s tour by sponsoring the season-opening event on the Korea Professional Golfers’ Association (KPGA) Tour, positioning itself as a major supporter across both circuits.
Tournament Venue and Course Details
The championship will be held at Rainbow Hills Country Club, the same venue that previously hosted the Korea Women’s Open. Designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., the facility features 27 holes divided into East, South, and West courses.
The course is known for its mountainous layout that follows natural terrain, narrow fairways, varied undulations, and fast, challenging greens that test players’ skills.
Unlike the previous tournament held in hot summer months, this event takes place in early May, which is expected to ease physical demands on competitors. Additionally, a natural grass driving range has been set up on the unused West course to provide players with top-tier practice facilities.
Star Players Confirmed
The field includes all of this season’s tournament winners so far. Top contenders include last year’s Player of the Year and money list leader, as well as a player who has won twice at Rainbow Hills.
Members of the DB Insurance golf team are also set to compete, aiming for strong performances at their sponsor’s event.
Unique Champion’s Time Ceremony
A special innovation debuts at this tournament: the “Champion’s Time” ceremony. The exact moment the winner sinks the final putt—down to the hour, minute, and second—will be officially recorded.
This timestamp will be engraved on the “DB Champions Legacy” board and permanently displayed at the golf club, creating a lasting tribute to each champion.
The inaugural DB Women’s Championship aims to honor the heritage of the Korea Women’s Open while introducing innovative fan experiences and a distinctive tournament culture.
A representative from DB Group stated that the company will leverage its experience from supporting the Korea Women’s Open to develop this new championship into a flagship event on the KLPGA Tour.
