위메이드, 中 킹넷과 ‘미르2’ 로열티 분쟁 종결…430억 원 수령 “지식재산권 보호”

South Korean game developer Wemade has successfully resolved a long-standing royalty dispute with Chinese gaming company Kingnet, bringing closure to legal proceedings centered on the popular MMORPG Legend of Mir 2.

The settlement resulted in Wemade receiving approximately 43 billion Korean won, marking a significant victory for the company’s efforts to protect its intellectual property rights in overseas markets.

Intellectual Property Protection Emphasized
Company representatives highlighted the importance of safeguarding game IP assets in international territories, particularly in competitive markets where licensing agreements can become contentious.

The dispute involved licensing terms and royalty payments related to the Chinese distribution of the classic online game. Both parties have now agreed to terms that resolve all outstanding financial and contractual matters.

This resolution allows Wemade to focus on expanding its blockchain gaming initiatives and global publishing strategies without the burden of ongoing litigation.
