Two Fresh Hip-Hop Girl Groups Enter K-Pop Arena

The K-pop landscape welcomes two brand-new acts embracing hip-hop identity: Keyveatz under AOMG and H//PE Princess from Chapter-I. Their arrival creates a competitive dynamic in a space previously dominated by a single player.

Both teams launched their debut tracks on the same evening last month, marking simultaneous entries into the market. Keyveatz represents AOMG’s inaugural venture into girl group territory, featuring five members delivering trap and Jersey club-influenced sounds. Their double single includes production contributions from AOMG founder Jay Park, particularly on the track featuring infectious hooks and dynamic flow.

Notable approach: AOMG markets Keyveatz using “girl crew” terminology rather than traditional idol group language, emphasizing underground and subcultural musical roots. The label plans to build their artistic direction around alternative aesthetics and authentic hip-hop sensibilities.

H//PE Princess emerged from Mnet’s rap survival program, bringing together seven members under a joint venture between CJ ENM and Japanese agency Hakuhodo. Dynamic Duo’s Amoeba Culture handles co-management while Warner Music Group supports international expansion. Their pre-release single showcases groovy rhythms and confident lyrics, produced by Gaeko who mentored them during the survival show.

Until now, YOUNG POSSE stood virtually alone since their 2023 debut in championing pure hip-hop styling within K-pop’s girl group sector. Their discography has referenced golden-era West Coast sounds and 1990s hip-hop classics. The group recently expressed hope that more acts would join this musical direction.

Industry observers view this development as strategic differentiation in an oversaturated market. With established groups commanding loyal followings, newcomers seek alternative positioning. Hip-hop’s energetic performance style and global appeal offer competitive advantages as international interest in K-pop intensifies.

The challenge ahead: Balancing genre authenticity with mainstream accessibility will determine whether these unconventional projects succeed in reshaping girl group conventions.
