“무명 가수 때문에 울고불고”…멕시코 방송 BTS 폄하 논란

A Mexican entertainment show has drawn criticism after panelists made disparaging comments about BTS and their fanbase during a recent broadcast.

The controversy erupted on Multimedia Channel 6’s gossip program when hosts discussed ticketing issues surrounding the K-pop group’s upcoming concert series. While addressing public concerns about seat arrangements and pricing transparency, panel members made several contentious remarks.

One broadcaster compared the situation to another artist’s sold-out show, suggesting fans lack judgment despite feeling exploited by high prices. Another panelist stated they would make their hypothetical teenage daughter focus on homework rather than cry over an unknown performer’s concert.

The program displayed BTS photos and videos during these comments, leading viewers to interpret the “unknown performer” reference as directed at the group. A moderator attempted to intervene by noting many young people dream of seeing the artists live, but another host continued with unsubstantiated claims about fans’ education levels.

Local audiences and international fans criticized the broadcast for crossing acceptable boundaries, particularly regarding educational prejudice and mockery of genuine appreciation for artists.

Social media responses included defenses highlighting positive messages in the group’s music compared to other genres, accusations of jealousy toward global artists, and posts from fans sharing their professional credentials to counter stereotypes.

This incident marks the second notable controversy involving Mexican media and the Korean group. A previous 2018 broadcast featured inappropriate commentary during coverage of an awards show, which eventually led to public apologies.

The upcoming stadium performances are part of a major world tour spanning multiple continents and dozens of cities. The venue can accommodate tens of thousands of attendees across multiple dates.

Government officials have publicly welcomed the concerts, acknowledging their cultural significance and addressing ticketing accessibility concerns for the substantial number of interested fans.
