A controversial image circulating on social media platforms shows a military serviceman from Israel wielding a large hammer against a Christ figure that had fallen to the ground in Lebanese territory.
The photograph depicts the religious sculpture separated from its cross and positioned on the earth, with the uniformed individual striking the head portion with a heavy tool. The statue was located in Debl, a village with Christian residents situated in Lebanon’s southern region close to the border area.
Military Response and Investigation
Military officials confirmed the authenticity of the widely shared imagery and stated that proper measures would be implemented. Through their official social media presence, authorities characterized the incident as a serious matter requiring immediate attention.
According to the military statement, this behavior represents an individual action that contradicts core institutional principles. The northern command division has launched a full inquiry into the circumstances, with the matter being handled through proper command channels.
Restoration Efforts and Clarification
Officials emphasized their commitment to collaborate with local community members to return the religious sculpture to its original placement. They clarified that ongoing operations in the southern Lebanese area focus on dismantling militant infrastructure rather than targeting places of worship or spiritual symbols.
The military stressed that damage to civilian infrastructure, including structures and symbols of religious significance, does not align with operational intentions. Appropriate disciplinary action against those responsible was promised following the completion of the investigation.
